We are writing to update you on the continued service disruptions on your child's bus route(s). The ongoing situation is caused by an unexpected and unprecedented driver shortage at National Transportation.  OSTA continues to work with National Transportation to provide daily coverage on its routes.  Drivers and administrative staff from other National Transportation locations have relocated to
Ottawa to manage the current conditions.  On-going delays are the result of new drivers familiarizing themselves with our routes, and challenging Ottawa traffic patterns. Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee buses will arrive at the posted stop time, nor that posted delay notifications will be accurate, for the same reasons.

 

We know many parents rely on school bus service to get their children to and from school. This is why we made the decision to continue to provide transportation, albeit at a lower level of service. We highly recommend parents stay with their children at the bus stop until the bus arrives. If this is not possible, we encourage parents to ensure their children have a way to communicate with them, the school or a neighbor, in the event of a prolonged delay.  OSTA will make every attempt to notify parents by phone and/or in writing with as much notice as possible, if it is deemed necessary to cancel services due to safety concerns.

 

Please continue to contact National for information regarding issues that occur on a daily basis, or an emergency situation, as is the usual practice.  Due to the volume of calls, however, National may not be accessible right away.  If this is the case, please feel free to contact the school or OSTA at 613-224-8800 ext 2382 and we will take action to assist you.

 

OSTA is working with other bus operators to re-design routes to improve overall service levels. We anticipate changes will be implemented as of March 4, 2019. We will send written confirmation as soon as we have verified the new routes and/or changes.

 

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. Student safety is always our first priority.  All stakeholders are working hard to resolve the current situation.
