Principal's Message

Briargreen PS is a K-6 school located in the well established community of Briargreen-Leslie Park. We are a single stream English only site with daily Core French and a bilingual Kindergarten program. We also have a Primary Special Needs classroom and a wonderful Extended Day Program.

I would like to take a moment to acknowledge that in the Spirit of Truth and Reconciliation, Briargreen Public School and all who learn here recognize the unique and enduring relationship that exists between Indigenous Peoples and their traditional territories. We know that we live and work on the historic unceded Algonquin territory of the Anishinaabe people. Our acknowledgement of this demonstrates our ongoing efforts to recognize, respect, and honour the Algonquin people whose lands and water we benefit from today and every day. At Briargreen, we thank the Algonquin People, and acknowledge that our learning, playing, and growing takes place on their unceded, and unsurrendered territory, and we recognize their enduring presence on this land.

My number one responsibility as an educator working alongside the Briargreen team, is to ensure that students are learning and feel safe physically, socially and emotionally. Students come first; home and school working together can provide the pathway to success for our students. Children do well in school when they actively see themselves reflected in all aspects of learning. I am committed to working with the team here to foster a learning environment where the curriculum reflects diversity, is culturally relevant, and responsive. In an effort to support every child’s right to accessing opportunities that lead to success, we all endeavour to create an inclusive environment built on relationships with students, staff and families, that supports achievement, growth, and opportunity for success regardless of gender, sex, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, or disability attributes. Effective communication between the home and school is essential to developing a partnership which supports students. While learning may be hard for some or take longer for others, our goal is to always be moving student learning forward.

When parents and the school community work in partnership, great things can be accomplished. School Councils work together with the school’s staff and community partners to strengthen and support the learning in our building. The School Council meets monthly and all are welcome!
